On the recent report of unmarked graves containing 2,156 dead bodies in Kashmir, Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has demanded action against the guilty, appropriate compensation to the relations of the deceased, and withdrawal of the draconian AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act) and J&K Disturbed Areas Act to bring peace to the state.
In a press statement on August 24, Secretary General of APCR, Prof. K.A. Siddique Hassan said: “The recent report by Jammu & Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (JK SHRC) about scores of unmarked graves and 2,156 bodies on 38 sites tells the sad story of atrocities in Kashmir.
“This brings to notice the tragic story of midnight knocks, arbitrary arrests, killings which went on for years in that unfortunate state. Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) demands that that state government must take action against the guilty and pay appropriate compensation to the relations of the deceased. This will, to some extent, mitigate the sufferings of the related persons and open the doors of reconciliation. The APCR also supports the demand to withdraw the draconian AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act) and J&K Disturbed Areas Act to bring peace to the state.”
