Reacting to the submission of Justice M.S. Liberhan Commission Report after the passage of 17 years since its formation, Secretary Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Mujtaba Farooque pointed out that the inordinate delay in the report’s submission was a case of “justice delayed is justice denied”. Noting that the delay indicated lack of political will on the part of the State, he asserted that now since the report has been presented the government will need to take action. Not taking any action on the basis of the report would merely create problems for the government, warned Mr. Farooque. Leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (JUH) and RLD MP (Rajya Sabha) Maulana Mahmood Madani demanded that the Report be tabled and debated in the Parliament. Describing the Babri Masjid demolition as “a blot on the country’s history”, Mr. Madani emphasised that those guilty of the demolition of the historic mosque must be punished. According to the Secretary of JUH Maulana Abdul Hameed Nomani, the delay in the report’s submission is rajniti (politics). He underlined the need to unmask the guilty. However, he remained tight-lipped on the kind of punishment. Maulana Nomani only remarked, “It should be as per the law.”
