If creative measures are not taken on the Liberhan Commission Report, it will affect the secular democratic future of the country, said Prof KA Siddique Hasan, national vice-president of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. He was inaugurating a public meeting organised by the Solidarity Youth Movement, raising the slogan ‘Babri demolition – punish the culprits’ in Kozhikode.
Prof Hasan said Gujarat riots took place because a situation was created in which culprits who publicly challenged law and order and secular democratic values could move about freely. The riots, crimes and communal propaganda that continue even now began as part of it. So all the people named by the Liberhan Commission should be brought to the book. The organisations that led the demolition of Babri Masjid should be banned and the Parliamentarians named by the Commission should be debarred. The cases in connection with it should be tried in special fast track courts and should be made ready for judgments, he added.
India is ruled by pseudo-secularists who refuse even to treat those who demolished the Babri Masjid as culprits, opined Dr PK Pokker, director of the Bhasha Institute (language institute). He added that the formation of a wide anti-fascist alliance was essential in such circumstances. O Abdurahman, Editor of Madhyamam daily, opined that the country was sustained by secular conscience but the rulers do not have the guts to act according to it.
