Mere giving reservation to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in prestigious institutions like IITs and IIMs does not serve the purpose of social justice. Reservation on the basis of caste divides the society. The policy of reservation has failed in its main purpose of achieving social justice, as even after five decades the list of OBCs is growing. Now, economically forward classes (creamy layer) belonging to the OBC, SC, ST categories are also enjoying the facility and on the other hand it denies the opportunity to the meritorious students of the general category. In some states, the percentage of reservation in educational institutions has already crossed the limit of 50 per cent. And now, the demand for reservation is increasing with day in and day out as more and more communities are demanding to list them in SC, ST, OBC category. In the present global scenario, rather diving the society on the basis of caste and creed, the system should encourage young talents to compete at international level.
