The police, on 31 January, registered a criminal case against a garment showroom in Hyderabad which was selling cloths with Qur’ānic verses and Islamic scripts imprinted thereon. The police acted following a complaint lodged by Amjedullah Khan. In his complaint, Khan claimed that Alyssa showroom in Abids was selling designer cloths for women with verses hurting sentiments of Muslims. Based on his complaint, a case under Section 295 (deliberate and malicious act to outrage religious feelings) of Indian Penal Code was registered.
Meanwhile, a group of Muslims, on 31 January, protested in the capital against posters of a just-released film Race 2 claiming the poster carried verses from the Holy Qur’ān. Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind wrote a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, urging him to stop its publication and display.
