On the suspension of a large number of Opposition MPs from Parliament, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot wrote on his social media account: “It is the responsibility of the Speaker to conduct the Lok Sabha impartially. In case of a serious lapse in the security of the Parliament, if the Speaker had given instructions to the Home Minister to give a statement in Parliament, this matter would have ended and there would not have been so much uproar. The central government not making a statement on this serious issue and suspending the opposition MPs instead of discussion will be recorded as an unfortunate incident in the history of Parliament.”

Rajasthan Congress State President Govind Singh Dotasara said, “India’s democratic system is in danger, the country is being pushed into darkness by suppressing public issues. For the first time in history, about 150 MPs have been suspended to suppress the voice of the Opposition and the government got all the laws passed without any opposition. This is not a good sign for democracy.

“The Prime Minister and the Home Minister should have given a statement on the lapse in security of Parliament. But it is unfortunate for the country that egoistic people are instigating sentiments by playing caste politics in the temple of democracy.”
