The Welfare Party of India, on 28 August, alleged that the government of Rajasthan was shielding the self-styled godman, Asaram Bapu who has been served summon in a rape case levelled against him by a minor girl. In a statement, Dr. SQR Ilyas, General Secretary Welfare Party of India, asked the state government to allow no laxity while dealing with the case and not to succumb to any type of pressure. He added that the high profile guru needed stern punishment if he had ridiculed the faith and trust of thousands of his disciples.

Asaram has been accused of sexually exploiting a minor girl in his Ashram in Jodhpur while the girl, along with her parents, was on a sacred visit to seek the blessings of the Baba some days earlier. On her return, the girl had filed a zero-FIR with Delhi Police.
