The Government of Uttar Pradesh has nominated Munawwar Rana president of Uttar Padesh Urdu Academy and Nawaz Deobandi chairman of its managing committee. However, the process for the nomination of its other members is going on. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation in this regard, the Allahabad High Court, on 30 January, directed the government to form the Academy within a month time. The PIL has also challenged the nomination of a government official as the vice president of the Academy.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the National Commission of Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI), MSA Siddiqui, said in a statement that reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in unaided minority educational institutions would deny minority community of their right to education and violate Article 30 (1) of the Constitution.
