For the first time, the constituent and affiliated colleges under Ranchi University would undertake a survey to determine minority students, teaching and non-teaching staff. University officials said the survey would be undertaken following a UGC directive received on September 19. “The survey would be a part of nationwide data collection. The survey report would have to be submitted to the UGC by October 20,” said A.A. Khan, the vice-chancellor.
The survey would identify students, teaching and non-teaching staff hailing from minority groups such as Bengali, Oriya, Muslims, Jains and Buddhist. A copy of the survey would be sent to the state human resource development department.

A senior official of Jharkhand Minority Commission reportedly said that it would also assist the colleges in identifying minority students, teaching and non-teaching staff.
