The Future of India’s Youths Seems to be in Peril

People in India are passing through difficult times. The functioning of government institutions, the judiciary and other reputed agencies seems to be no longer independent. The voices of the people particularly the youths asking for justice are not only silenced, but are being booked in the false cases under charges of sedition. The latest victim was a young 23-year-old Bengaluru’s climate activist Disha Ravi, who is nowhere related to the farmers protesting against the government’s three farm laws, was targeted and booked in a case of sedition by the Delhi police. It is something like: “The more you talk – the more you’ll be punished”.

Earlier also the students of JNU, AMU and Jamia Millia Islamia were harassed and targeted. Some of them might be missing or languishing behind the bars. People should be proud to know that the youths are the assets of the nation. But, unfortunately no one dares to come forward and voice on behalf of them or to support them. Thus, the future of the defenceless India’s youths more or less seems to be in peril.

Doing More Harm than Good

Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, opposition leader in Rajya Sabha, while delivering his farewell speech, said that he felt proud to be an Indian Muslim.

In this context, let me state that he did not speak a single word while his home state was divided, where he had been CM for 3 years. He kept deafening silence during Nellie genocide, Sikh genocide, Gujarat massacre-2002, anti-Christian riots, anti-Dalit riots, etc.

Why should he compare the state of affairs of Indian Muslims with those of Pakistan? It would have been better and dignified for him, had he compared Kashmiri Muslims’ plight with other minorities in the other states of India.

He has done nothing except shoe-polishing of Congressites during his political career spanning over more than four decades to get some post in party and in government. Such stooges have done more harm to Muslims and other weaker sections of society than good.

Let’s Move towards Real Peace in Palestine

The American Human Rights Council has welcomed the Biden administration’s restoring US relations with the Palestinian Authority. The previous Trump administration tried to strong-arm the Palestinians into a fake and one-sided peace and that effort has failed. Therefore, the Biden administration’s bid to establish relations with the Palestinians is in the fitness of things. It is indeed time to go back to real dialogue and real diplomacy.

The Council says that real peace is possible, despite all the established road-blocks and other complications. It said, “We hope that the Biden administration would not be as biased to the Israeli side as the Trump administration was. The prior level of blatant bias made peace impossible and made Palestinians more determined to fight for their basic human rights of ending the occupation, and statehood. While there is no magic solution to the conflict, there is a realistic solution based on international law and UN resolutions. This requires genuine commitment from all parties, especially Israel.”

The Council points out that the Biden administration’s open reengagement with the Palestinians, as well as restoring the US aid to the Palestinians, are important steps in the right direction. However, “humanitarian aid alone does not replace the over-due awaited peace equally for all.” Let’s move towards the direction of establishing real peace in Palestine.
