Let’s Save the Muslim Social System

The marriage between an Irinjalakkuda-based Catholic woman and a Muslim man based in Kochi was held at St Joseph Church, Kadavanthara, on November 9. But it drew criticism from some corners and church authorities were slammed for ‘encouraging’ mixed marriages. Subsequently, Syro Malabar Church major archbishop Mar George Alencherry ordered a probe by major archiepiscopal tribunal. The three-member tribunal declared the marriage null and void.

Muslim organisations should also declare a marriage between a Muslim and a person belonging to another faith as invalid. It will save the Muslim social system from falling into any controversy.

Real Thrill and Ecstasy

Your latest article “Honey Bee and its Honey” by Syed Akbar Hassan (Radiance Viewsweekly, December 6) really touched me and made me feel by heart the Greatness of Allah, Subhan Allah. There was real thrill and ecstasy in your article. Indeed, all Praise and Thanks are due to Allah only.

I regularly read your articles with great interest. The selection of topics and their heading are always very catchy. They are all very motivational and practical for our day-to-day life and truly educating me immensely. I also study the ayaat from the Qur’an that are quoted in your write-ups. Now I feel more closer to the Qur’ān and am curious to recite and understand the same, Alhamdulillah.

You are certainly doing a great work of dawah for Muslim Community. May Allah make you continue the work that you are doing for so many years now, aamin. May Allah bless you with the best of both the worlds, aamin.

Unfavourable Atmosphere for Development

This refers to the article “Restoration of Minorities Rights is Imperative: Restore India’s Status in the World Community” by Syyed Mansoor Agha (Radiance Viewsweekly, December 27). The writer has candidly portrayed a picture of the prevailing scenario in the country. He writes: “High-pitch hate-mongering and violence against the Dalits, Tribes and especially the Muslim Minority, irrational economic adventures like demonetisation and sudden lockdown coupled with a shift in economic policies, from people-centric to corporate-favourite, created an unfavourable atmosphere for development.”

These are indeed the reasons that have put a spanner in the way of our development. The writer has also pointed out that India aspires for a permanent seat in UN Security Council. But there is no talk about it. The reason is not far to seek. The fact is that anti-minority policies have tarnished our image in the comity of nations. Our freedom fighters had sung, ‘When the head is held high’. But, thanks to powers-that-be, the situation has come to such a sorry pass that now we have to bow our heads in shame. The sooner corrective steps are taken the better.

Coronavirus Vaccines

India’s drug regulator on January 3 approved two vaccines for coronavirus, Covishield and Covaxin, for emergency use. But the fact that the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) has not received Phase 3 efficacy or effectiveness data of Covaxin has created a controversy. Dr Balram Bhargava, ICMR Director General, reportedly said, “The indicators are that it has a very high efficacy,” but declined to provide any specific detail. An efficacy report, he said, “would be (available) within weeks.”

However, the Congress party said that the government must explain why mandatory protocols and verification of data from stage-3 trials have been dispensed with while granting permission for the emergency use of the two COVID-19 vaccines. The issue is pertinent since no other country has apparently dispensed with these key processes, the opposition party said. This controversy must be cleared soon.
