UP School Incident Inevitable Corollary of BJP’s Hate Politics

A lady school teacher, Tripti Tyagi in Muzaffarnagar Uttar Pradesh faces charges for telling her Hindu students to slap their Muslim classmate. A viral video of this incident has triggered widespread outrage. What a shocking and inhuman incident!

In the disturbing video the boy stands helplessly, tears rolling down the cheeks. Loud slaps are heard as the students follow their teacher’s instruction. “Why don’t you hit harder? Whose turn is it now?” she says in the wrenching video. “The boy was forced to stand for hours, humiliated and beaten,” his father told the police.

“My son is seven-year-old. The teacher had my child beaten up repeatedly by students. My nephew made the video, he had gone to school for some work. My son was tortured for an hour or two,” said his father.

We want the law to take its own course, said the boy’s father. The child is in shock, he said. Suppose, if the video has not been made then the whole story would have been gone unreported. The school teacher should be removed from her job immediately. Let the law will its own course.

Annihilate Racism

We have witnessed yet another manifestation of fascism materialised in a different fashion, so unapologetically of late. The Muzaffarnagar incident was a testament that bigotry and racism are rampant in the country in all walks of life; even teacher-student dynamics is no exception.

Impunity and endorsement from the ruling dispensation are to be blamed for this. Envenoming hatred and racism from the grassroots level will have colossal implications in the generations to come. These zealots should undergo exemplary punishment. Whomsoever it may concerned should take cognizance of the issue.

National Award for the Kashmir Files!

The Kashmir Files, a film that has been widely criticised for promoting hatred and divisiveness, has won the Nargis Datt award for best feature film in the National Integration Category at the National Film Award announced. The film directed by Vivek Agnihotri, a known BJP propagandist, presents a very biased, exaggerated and unreal account of the migration of Pandits from Kashmir.

The film is sensational and over-dramatized. It is political and propagandist in nature. It vilified Kashmiri Muslims as a community, made them villains in the pandit’s story.

An internationally known film director, Nadav Lapid, who is Chairman of jury of International Film Festival of India (IFFI), has criticised the entry of the Kashmir Files in festival and described it as “Vulgar propaganda”

A Double-Edged Sword

Information has power to change our lives. False information is like bad food, even if given free, causes indigestion. It is said Father of action is decision and Mother is information. Incorrect information leads to wrong decisions followed by wrong action. Videos freely available on YouTube are uploaded by people or various groups who are vying with each other to prove the other is wrong but the common man is confused. Though internet is a revolution, at times we feel the print media is far better, making us realise technology is a double-edged sword.
