Every thinking Muslim will sincerely welcome the reconciliation between Qatar and Saudi Arabia which was reached in the recently held GCC countries meet. Observers are seeing the Al Ula Pact as a positive step in solving the crisis which had damaged the social, economic and Islamic relations among the six Arab-Islamic nations and affected tens of thousands of families in the region. It is expected that the three years and a half long boycott of Qatar by brother countries, especially Saudi Arabia and U.A.E., would be put behind as a bad event and bridges of cooperation and undertaking would be built on firm foundations. Thoughtful persons hope that bad blood and rancour will never reappear in future. This is an eye-opening example of one emerging sadder but saner.

There are unlimited opportunities waiting for the Muslim Ummah to unite on the basis of Wahdatul Kalima. When 27-nation European Union (EU) can achieve success, why can’t the Islamic nations achieve the God-ordained unity and emerge as the largest block of 57 nations and protect their interests and at the same time serve the entire humanity through the limitless energy they have because of belief in One Almighty God and one humanity.

If fact the Muslim Ummah has been brought forth as the standard bearer of a principled Ummah which would always believe in Allah and His commandments and strive for the guidance and welfare of the entire humanity.

The Ummah, if it realises its moral strength, and becomes an embodiment of the universal Islamic principles, it can lead the whole world and usher in a period of most comprehensive development of humanity. For this we have to set our home in order. Our struggle succeeded and the Muslim countries started throwing the yoke of colonial powers at the middle of the 20th century. But, unfortunately, we, by and large, continued to follow the dictates of our colonial masters. Our body is full of wounds inflicted by internecine conflicts and wars. Iran-Iraq war, occupation of Kuwait, Algerian crisis, Saudi-Iranian rivalry, breaking of Pakistan, allowing the USSR and the US to intervene and destroy Afghanistan are some of the painful examples. Such heinous conflicts have been still raging. One glaring example is the senseless conflict and war in the poorest Arab country, Yemen.

Going back to our roots, upholding golden principle of becoming the best Ummah in thought and character, and promoting the divinely ordained principles of One God, one humanity and welfare of the whole human fraternity should be our purpose of life.

There is no other religion, no other philosophy or way of life which can save humanity. Only Islam is capable of repeating this miracle and developing the world and executing the overall progress of humanity. Let the Ummah realise its inherent and inbuilt potential and join hands to change. In this lies the guarantee of peace and prosperity in this life and everlasting success in the eternal life under the benign mercy of Allah the Almighty.
