B.N. Karya, who was hearing Deepda Darwaza case in which 11 were burnt alive, had finished recording evidence against 83 accused in Ahmedabad. The Gujarat High Court has transferred the special trial judge for the 2002 Deepda Darwaza case of Visnagar in Mehsana district, B.N. Karya, to the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority as member secretary. He has been replaced by A.R. Patel who has been serving as judge of Family Court in Godhra. Patel, however, has reportedly not taken charge as yet. Reasons for transferring Karya are not known. The Special Public Prosecutor in the case, P.R. Agrawal, said Karya was transferred before the summer vacation for the Gujarat High Court began and that no court proceedings have taken place since his transfer.
