A Panel Discussion on “Government Policy on Reservation for Muslim Minority” was organised by the South Asian Minorities Lawyers Association (SAMLA) at the Indian Law Institute on March 27. The overwhelming opinion, which emerged during the two-hour-long discussion, was that reservation for the Muslim minority is the need of the hour for the social and economic uplift of Indian Muslims. It was felt that the government must be apprised of this need and political parties be approached to include this issue in their manifestoes. Syed Shahabuddin, former MP, opened the discussion. The meet was attended by lawyers from various courts and prominent journalists including Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan and Masoom Moradabadi.
