Retired DGP R B Sreekumar has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, complaining about his government’s inaction to probe the 2002 riots, and to direct Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Home Affairs to submit documents and evidence relating to the activities of Army deployed in Gujarat during the 2002 communal riots. He has said that he had urged the Home Minister and the Defence Minister in 2010 to furnish the documents, which could be of immense importance as evidence to fix liability of administration in the riots.
Sreekumar has also complained that the riots survivors have felt let down by the Centre, which it did not take any initiative to inquire into the role allegedly played by Chief Minister Narendra Modi during the riots. He also reminded how the Centre dragged its feet when the Inquiry Commission sought correspondence between then President K R Narayanan and then PM Atal Behari Vajpayee.
