Jaipur based Muslim organisations and human rights groups on August 22 welcomed the release of Abrar Ali, who was detained by police on August 16 in connection with Jaipur bomb blasts. Hafiz Mansoori, a member of Jamait-e-Ulema said, “Police officials who arrested Abrar should not be spared. Muslim doctors (Abrar Ali and Anwar Hussein) were illegally detained by the police and it is a sheer violation of human rights.”
Jamait discussed the issue of illegal detentions of Muslim youths in their national executive meeting held on August 23.
Police had detained more 300 Muslims in connection with Jaipur blasts till date, however, no one has been charged or convicted. On August 18, another former AIIMS intern Anwar Hussein was freed by the police after detaining him for more than a day.
President Jamaat-e-Islami Rajasthan Engineer Muhammad Salim said, “We will support them (doctors) till they get justice. The attitude of government has been apathetic towards Muslims.” He further said that Rashid, an IT professional, who was arrested soon after the Jaipur blasts was also released by police when they failed to gather any evidence against him. “Despite getting a clean chit from the police, he is still facing the wrath of the society. Even as the government kept mum, he was chucked out by his organisation on the basis of his detention ,” he added.
A delegation of the Rajasthan Muslim Forum, which met Governor S.K. Singh on August 20 and Director General of Police K.S. Bains on August 21, alleged that the State agencies were acting with a biased mindset and preconceived notion of involvement of Muslim youngsters in the serial blasts that claimed 68 lives. Muslim Forum’s convenor Qari Moinuddin said the “illegal detentions” on the pretext of investigation would not serve any purpose other than provoking the majority community’s sentiments against Muslims and instilling a sense of fear and helplessness among the latter.
