The CBI said Rizwanur Rehman had committed suicide. It wanted a charge-sheet to be filed against the Todi family for alleged abetment. The CBI report, as read out in the Calcutta High Court on Thursday, has put up charges of abatement of suicide, criminal conspiracy and criminal intimidation against Ashok Todi, Anil Sarogi, former Deputy Commissioner of the Detective Department, Ajay Kumar, former Assistant Commissioner Sukanti Chakraborty and inspector D.D Krishnendu Das and others. The central agency has also suggested departmental enquiry against former city Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee. The report was made public by Justice Dipankar Dutta of Calcutta High Court, which had ordered the CBI to investigate the cause of the mysterious death of the graphics designer.
According to a report, hours after the court made public part of the CBI report, Home Secretary P. R. Roy said the state government would comply with the court order. The CBI report that claims Rizwan to have committed suicide has left the Rizwan’s family in a state of shock. “We still believe that Rizwan was murdered, said Rizwan’s brother Rukbanur Rehman. “This is only half justice. We want all the accused persons to be punished,” said Rizwan’s mother Kishwar Jahan.
