A worker of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, AV Dileep, was killed on 6 April when the bike on which he was carrying explosives exploded at Maruthayil near Kannur, Kerala. The bike was utterly destroyed in the explosion and three houses within a radius of 50 metre also suffered damage.According to reports citing police sources, Dileep was carrying around 3 kg of explosives. It is said that Dileep was to deliver the explosives to the state head quarters of RSS.

Reacting to the issue, the district secretary of CPI-M Kannur, P Jayarajan said the incident was another proof of Hindutva terrorism. On the other hand, the RSS tried to blanket the issue and said Dileep was only a sympathiser and not a member of the organisation. A leader of RSS, Kannur, alleged that Dileep’s family makes traditional firecrackers and he was carrying the explosive material for the purpose. The police sources, however, denied the allegation and said he did not even have a licence to manufacture firecrackers.
