Muslim groups in Rajasthan hit out at the ruling Congress on August 3 for ignoring the community for nomination to the vacant Rajya Sabha seat from the state despite an overwhelming support extended to the party during the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections recently. The Rajasthan Muslim Forum representing 17 Muslim organisations of the state pointed out that only one Muslim candidate had been elected twice to Lok Sabha on Congress ticket from the state since independence, while there was no Muslim representative in the Rajya Sabha since 2003.
“Muslims deserve to get at least four seats in both Houses of Parliament on the basis of their percentage in the state’s population. The Congress which has always made tall claims of giving proper representation to Muslims, has never bothered to put its announcements into practice,” said Muslim Forum Convenor Qari Moinuddin.
