Tihar jail officials, on 2 March, rejected an RTI application asking for the information related to the hanging of Afzal Guru saying it would harm the sovereignty and integrity of India as well as being a threat to the security. The applicant, Urvashi Sharma, had sought copies of the documents and letters generated, sent and received by the prison department during the whole process. The office of the director general of prisons said in its response to the application that the revelation of the copy like that of the “black warrant” and other communications sent in this regard by the Ministry of Home Affairs could not be made public as it would endanger the country’s relations with some foreign countries.
