According to PM Manmohan Singh, Assam violence is a blot on the fair name of India. The CM, Tarun Gogoi is mainly responsible for the large scale one-sided Assam violence. He has failed to control the well-planned and organised anti-Muslim riots in several districts and was inefficient in nabbing the Bodo rioters and perpetrators. The role of Assam police is partial and condemnable. The Congress leadership should remove Gogoi and hand over Assam to army.
Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said, “The problem is neither communal nor of Indians and non-Indians.” In fact, Bangla-speaking Muslims and Hindus of this area are all Indians. Bodos want to make this area Bodoland, just like Nagaland. The quarrel is between 27 per cent Bodos and 73 per cent non-Bodos, comprising Muslims, Santhals, and some other tribes.
In 2003, during the NDA regime, Bodo Territorial Council Act (BTCA) got implemented. The population of Bodos in this area is 27 per cent, whereas the population of non-Bodos, i.e. Muslims, Santhals and others constitute 73 per cent. The majority 73 per cent has no political representation in the BTCA, which indeed is gross injustice and against the democratic principles. Non-Bodos should be given 73 per cent representation in BTCA.
There are terrorists, militants and law-breakers in Bodos. A Bodo terrorist organisation was banned by the Central Government long ago. They have firearms, etc. They support the Gogoi government and want to drive away the majority non-Bodos to change the demography in their favour.
