The Supreme Court last week turned down the bail plea of Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, the Malegaon Blast accused, who was picked up by the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad. Sadhvi Pragya, who was arrested on October 10, 2008, had applied for the bail claiming that her arrest was illegal. She is facing charges under MCOCA for her alleged involvement in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case. A Bench of Justices J.M. Panchal and H.L. Gokhale, dismissing an appeal filed by Pragya against a Bombay High Court order, said: “So far as merits are concerned, counsel for the appellant has not addressed this Court at all and in fact bail is not claimed on merits in the present appeal at all.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Nihal Ahmad, a famous socialist leader, hailed the decision of the Supreme Court and said that the decision of the Court is a proof which confirms that the judiciary of our country is reliable and it will do justice to the victims of the blast. The ongoing hunger strike by Nihal, on “Mushawrat Chowk” has entered its 150 day, where he is demanding ban on RSS.
