With around 1 lakh female foeticide each year, the female-male ratio in UP has come to 898/1000 whereas the national figure stands at 933/1000. How to combat this menace? The Supreme Court had directed the central and state governments to implement the Pre-natal Diagnostic Technique (PNDT) Act to put an end to female infanticide. But the criminal negligence of the Health and Family Welfare Department has brought this shameful situation. True, no law can effectively stop this practice. So the NGOs must come forward to eradicate this menace and make people realise its villainies and delinquencies. No doubt, female foeticide amounts to killing an innocent life.
It is high time we came forward and raised our voice against this unholy act. The Holy Qur’an says: “Kill not your children for fear of want: We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily the killing of them is a great sin” (17:13).
