In its recent judgement, the Apex Court has unanimously struck down electoral bonds as unconstitutional for violating the right to information under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution and directed the State Bank of India to immediately stop issuing electoral bonds and furnish the details of the bonds purchased and encashed to the Election Commission of India.

This judgement was welcomed by all citizens, except the supporters of BJP.

But the SBI, which runs 23000 branches, 64000 ATMs and having more than 40 crore accounts and the biggest lender, has expressed its inability to furnish the details before the stipulated time and sought time up to June 2024 which is simply unacceptable and laughable. The SBI Chairman is solely responsible for this unethical and unacceptable response. He is already on extension and may be expecting one more extension and might be under tremendous pressure.

The Apex Court should not accept this unreasonable request and direct the SBI to comply forthwith.

The SBI is a totally computerised bank before the introduction of this dubious scheme and over a click of a button it will get all the required information. It doesn’t need much time to collate the necessary data.

Hence the Supreme Court should make the SBI follow its instructions immediately and comply with its orders and make the citizens strengthen their faith in it.

Make It Easy for US Aspirants

The US is a favourite destination for aspiring Indian youngsters with as many as 60,000 Indians becoming US citizens in 2023. This also points to the need to make sure those who would like to go abroad to study or take up a job, are provided every possible facility to make the process easy for them. These include easing visa and passport procedures and ensuring that students and professionals in particular have access to all the latest information, job and educational opportunities so that they do not miss out on anything. Efforts should also be made to upgrade our educational facilities at par with US standards so that our students do not have to look abroad all the time.
