Following the direction of the Supreme Court, the Gujarat police have restarted to scrutinise the cases of Godhra riots, in which thousands of innocent Muslims were mercilessly killed in 2002. Police teams visited many adjoining villages of Godhra to rerecord the statements of all eyewitnesses, complainants and accused persons soon after the Supreme Court directed to reopen all the riot cases registered in different district police stations. They were reportedly rerecorded the statements of as many as 70 eyewitnesses and accused persons on the first day of the reinvestigation in riot-affected Bid village in eastern Gujarat. The reinvestigation of all cases has triggered a panic in all the village surrounding areas as many were reported to have fled.
