The Supreme Court on December 13 rejected the plea of BJP Member of Parliament from Gorakhpur Yogi Aditya Nath and the then mayor of Gorakhpur Ranju Chaudhari asking the court to put a stay on the decision of Allahabad High Court regarding their arrest. Yogi and Chaudhari were named along with others who aired communal riots in Gorakhpur 2007. Asad Hayat, President Awami Council for Peace and Democracy and the person who had complained against them, welcomed the decision of the court.

Earlier, the Allahabad High Court had issued an order regarding the arrest of those who were allegedly involved in the riots including Yogi and Chaudhari. Then the duo filed a plea in November 2008 in the Supreme Court asking it to put a stay on the decision of High Court. But the court rejected their plea and it seems the way to arrest them is clear.
