SC REMARKS ON BEARD, BURQA UN-CONSTITUTIONAL: ER. MOHD. SALEEM

“The Supreme Court’s remark on Beard and Burqa is unfortunate,” Er. Mohammad Saleem, State President Jamaat-e-Islami Hind said on April 1. “It is totally un-constitutional and violation of the ‘right to freedom of religion’ of the citizens to force somebody not to sport a beard or wear a burqa,” he averred.

“This remark is not only humiliating to the Muslims of the country, but an attack on the personal freedom of the people of India. This remark of the Mr. Justice Katju about the Islamic symbols like beard and burqa, is sheer insult to the crores of Indian Muslims, men and women,” he added.

Mr. Saleem further said, “Indian Muslims are quite astonished and shocked by this remark.”
