The finding of crude bomb on board a private airline’s flight at Thiruvananthapuram is a serious security lapse. It seems that the bomb was not capable of being detonated. However the presence of 100 gm explosive material in the cargo hold could have been dangerous to the passengers and aircraft. Fortunately the lapse did not cause any harm. After the Pune explosion and the finding of explosives near the Gujarat coast, steps should be taken to identify the real culprits behind these actions, they should be pursued and punished. The security officials should be trained to be more alert and vigilant to avoid such security lapses.
