Addressing a Seminar on Biodiversity Awareness by Forest Department, Chief Guest Dr. M.I.H. Farooqi, former Deputy Director, NBRI, stressed the need of protecting the Biodiversity as the religious duty of all citizens. This ecological ethics is one of the moral principles of Islam, based on Quranic Injunctions and Prophetic Sayings (Hadith), said Dr. Farooqi. In this regard, he quoted the Quranic Verse (6:38) as “There is not an animal in the earth, nor a flying creature flying on two wings, but they are peoples like unto you” and a Prophetic saying as “There is none amongst the Muslims who plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, or a person or an animal eats from it, but is regarded as a charitable gift for him (Book Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 3, Chapter 39:).
