The stance taken by the Shiv Sena against Shahrukh Khan has all the portents of a law and order situation which the Maharashtra Government has been proved time and again to be totally inefficient to handle. A renowned library is ransacked destroying precious volumes. A TV channel office is vandalised in broad daylight. A young politician threatens the legal fraternity of the city and stops them from extending legal aid to a certain group of detainees. The house of a big actor is gheraoed because of the perception that he loves Uttar Pradesh and not Maharashtra. There are innumerable instances where the state government has been a silent spectator to violent demonstrations.
This time, however, there is hope of some competence on part of the government. At least that is what the Chief Minister has assured the nation of. Union Home Minister has also stated that the State government is capable of handling any situation. The Bandra Muslim Association should best trust the government to rise to the occasion and prove its mettle.
