The Telangana Waqf Board has reported the disappearance of confidential files from the Chairman’s chamber, prompting the Abids police to register a case of data theft. The complaint, filed by Mohammed Asif Khan, Tahsildar and Officer on Special Duty at the Board, accuses unknown persons of unlawfully converting official documents into digital formats and stealing sensitive information.

As per officials, the case was registered on Oct. 24 under Section 305 of the BNS after Khan submitted a reminder to the police about an earlier complaint made on Aug. 7. The Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s office had previously forwarded the complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, but no FIR was filed until now.

Investigators describe the incident as a deliberate act of data theft. The investigation, led by Sub-Inspector NainiGourender Goud, will cover both cyber and physical aspects to determine how the files were accessed and who converted them into electronic form.

Officials are examining whether the breach involved internal personnel or external actors. The missing files reportedly contain critical information related to the Waqf Board’s administrative and land matters.

The case has raised concerns about the security of sensitive Waqf records, which have long been the subject of disputes and scrutiny. Police said efforts are underway to trace the digital footprint and identify those behind the breach.
