The Student Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) has accused the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Kerala Students Union (KSU) of following the agenda set by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). A meeting of the SIO district secretariat at Malappuram, Kerala on October 15 said that the SFI and KSU were vying with each other to portray Muslim youths as terrorists. The SIO secretariat said that the SFI had turned against SSM Polytechnic at Tirur when its agitation for a baseless cause failed to evoke desired effects. The SFI was trying to destroy the polytechnic by slapping charges of terrorist links to it and using its influence in the government, it said. The SIO said that the Marxist students’ attempts to paint Muslim students as having terrorist links in Malappuram were due to the failure of the SFI to wrest control of the campuses in the district.

Citing several incidents, including the one at the Cochin University of Science and Technology, in which a fasting student was made to drink alcohol, the SIO said that the SFI was the biggest fascist and terrorist student organisation in the country. The SIO secretariat said the KSU was under the Sangh Parivar influence in Malappuram district. Congress leader Aryadan Mohammed, MLA, was inspiring the Congress students with his ‘extra-nationalist’ agenda, it added.
