Congress General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed’s tweet that the 2002 anti-Muslim Gujarat riots led to the formation of Indian Mujahideen has irked Muslims. The community leaders demanded the politician to stop the one-upmanship to woo Muslims. “This will not help any party in getting votes. People can see through such ploys,” said Niaz Ahmed Farooqui, secretary Jamiat Ulema Hind. In his statement, Dr. SQR Ilyas, member All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said, “If he is trying to say Muslims reacted to 2002 riots through terrorism, I refute his claim. IM is a fabrication of the Intelligence Bureau.”  Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, president All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat stressed, “It (IM) is an outfit floated either by the IB or ISI.” Sharique Ansar, national secretary Students’ Islamic Organisation of India, said, “Whenever there is a blast, IM is named as the perpetrator. But the continuous chain of blasts proves the mastermind is still at large.”
