The Muslims in Punjab has come up with Sharia’h Panchayat to deal with the issues related to marriage, divorce, inheritance etc. of the Muslim community. The Panchayat is said to be the first common platform in the state since independence which includes every sect of the community. Addressing the meeting held to announce formation of the Panchayat at Dana Mandi near Ludhiyana, Izhar Alam on 17 February, chairman Punjab State Waqf Board, said the Panchayat would look into the pure Muslim issues like marriage, divorce and inheritance as well as taking up other issues related to encroachments of Waqf properties and welfare of the community.
