The preparation of the UID card is in danger of falling into the ‘middleman’ trap as residents of villages close to Jaipur have complained they had to stump up money to get the document, which should come free.
The complaints have been reported from a UID camp held in a village 25 km from Jaipur. The villagers said some persons charged Rs 60-70 from them at the camp site on the pretext of filling in the form and completing other formalities.
A woman alleged she had to pay Rs 120. While the staff at the camp denied the allegations, the villagers said they paid Rs 50 for work on the form and other processes to be gone through, and R10 for the lamination of the receipt for the UID. They have, however, not been issued any paper for the money they paid.
