Hindu-Muslim riots flared up after Friday prayers on April 18 in Bharadi village, Taluka Sillod of Aurangabad in Maharashtra. Incidents of destruction of properties, including setting shops on fire took place. During the Friday prayers rioters raised the slogan ‘Qasam Ram ki khate hain mandir wahin banayenge’ in front of Jama Masjid and played DJ music loudly which caused much disturbance during the prayer. Latter on some unknown persons destroyed things and all of a sudden Bharahdi market was shut down and there was stampede. Stone pelting on both sides took place just after one hour. Several shops were set on fire. Due to lack of police personnel in Bharadi village the riots continued for hours. Several persons received injuries during the violence.
Possible measures were taken to bring the situation back to normalcy. The police imposed curfew in the village. Despite this, destruction of properties and setting shops on fire continued in the village. Reports say that on the pretext of controlling the situation youths are being taken into custody in large numbers.
