This is apropos of the article “Vote Wisely or Repent Forever” (Radiance 30 June- 6 July). The writer has rightly said the Muslim votes get divided due to more than one Muslim candidate in fray in the same constituency. The data attached with the article suggests that there are at least 60 Lok Sabha constituencies where Muslims number more than 25 per cent of total voters. Besides, there are several other places where Muslim votes decide one’s fate in elections. The name of Azamgarh constituency in Uttar Pradesh is missing from the list where Muslims are in sizeable number and apparently constitute 30 per cent of the total votes. Anyway, it is saddening to know that the Muslims did not represent even 10 per cent of their total population since independence. Now, the time has come to launch a single party of their own or to make an alliance of all available Muslim parties so as to make their voice heard in political circles.
