The Students Islamic Organisation of India, on 6 April, demanded a fair and impartial inquiry into the alleged custodial death of the SFI leader, Sudipta Gupta, on 2 April in Kolkata. In a press release, the Press Secretary SIO said suppressing and killing in the name of maintaining law and order cannot be allowed at all. The organisation demanded from the Government of West Bengal as well to restore the Students Union soon which is supposed to be the nursery of national politics.

Meanwhile, the SIO urged the protestors to fight for the cause of students in a peaceful and productive manner as the students are to redefine the campus activism afresh and present such a model of activism which would be balanced and productive.
