The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has summoned Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, in connection with Gulbarg Society massacre, after a petition was filed by Zakia Jafri, widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri who was killed in the massacre. Ehsan Jafri was brutally killed along with 37 others on February 28, 2002, a day after the Sabarmati train incident. “We have summoned the Chief Minister and we will ask a few questions based on the evidence collected till now,” SIT Chief Raghavan was reported as saying. While getting information about the summons to Modi, Zakia said: “I hope justice will be given to us. It has been a long journey. I am very happy that the accused has been summoned.” In her petition to the Supreme Court, Zakia had named Modi and 62 others, including seven who were ministers in 2002, and several other officials. She alleged that Modi conspired and instructed the then DGP and other senior officials to “let Hindus vent their anger” after the train incident. The SIT has to submit its report in the Apex Court by April 30.
