For the welfare of Muslim girls and street children Delhi government is likely to finalise a scheme to impart skill development courses to them under the programmes “Hunar” and “Udan”. The programmes have been conceptualised by the National Institute of Open Schooling and it would be operational under the skilled development mission of Delhi government. This was decided in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and attended by Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely with various departmental heads associated with this scheme on August 11. Mrs Dikshit has directed the Directorate of Education and the Directorate of Training and Technical Education to chalk out a Delhi specific scheme with involvement of the National Institute of Open Schooling under the Union Ministry of Human Resources development. Mrs Dikshit expressed confidence that the new scheme will be launched within a few months to provide an opportunity of empowerment for Muslim girls in Delhi and also enable street children to get trained in different useful trades. It is supposed that skill development programmes for Muslin girls would be conducted in 260 madrasas in Delhi. The dropout girls would be able to acquire specific training in trades of their liking.
