A famous Japanese TV said that the success of uranium enrichment to the level of 20 per cent by Iran was a slap in the face of the western states, which tried to prevent the country from pursuing its nuclear programme. Japanese NHK TV quoted Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as saying in his February 11 National Day speech that the country has been capable of producing the first batch of 20 per cent enriched uranium and that it has the capacity to produce up to 80 per cent enriched uranium either. The TV opined that while Western states tried to intensify sanctions against Iran, Tehran continued to develop uranium enrichment through strong national unity.
