In a meeting called by Majlis-e-Tahafuz-e-Iman (MTI) on 26 November in the valley, the Muslim scholars in Kashmir noted that some NGOs are promoting Christianity against some monetary benefits. Talking to the media person post-meeting, a spokesperson of the MTI said, “The meeting voiced concern over the conversion issue in Kashmir and discussed the role of Christian missionaries in it. It was decided that some local elements actively promoting Christianity for monetary benefits will be exposed.” The MTI appealed to religious organisations, scholars and the Ulema to play their role in awakening religious consciousness among common people.
The Muslim scholars in the valley have always been alleging that some Christians used to visit Kashmir on tourist visas and lure the innocent people, especially orphans, towards Christianity. The scholars had accused some government officials of helping the Christian missionaries in getting visas easily and ensuring overstay in the valley for the purpose.
