Addressing a meeting in Ghaziabad on 4th July, Mr. Mohan Bhagwat has spoken some words which are being analysed in various circles. He said the DNA of Hindus and Muslims in India is same. Therefore, there should be dialogue not discord and corruption not conflict. In the atmosphere of suspicion, fear and hate, mainly created by foot soldiers and affiliates of sangh parivar, these words are being taken as sweet music by some circles. Some people are welcoming these words as they don’t expect anything better in the prevailing atmosphere which is getting murkier day by day. Should this be taken as a straw by a drowning person?

As a matter of fact the DNA of the whole mankind is same. We have been created by One Almighty God from a single pair of a man and a woman. The project of recording human migration launched in April 2005 by IBM and the National Geographic Society also confirms that all human beings are children of the same first parents and have the same origin. Almighty God also confirms in the Qur’ān: “O human beings, We have created you all from a male and a female, and make into nations and tribes so that you may know one another. Verily the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the most Godfearing of you. Surely Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.” (49:13)

No doubt, nations and communities have their worth in their own spheres. But the overall unity of mankind should never be forgotten. Differences of sex, colour and race are not important in comparison with morality, ethical quality and being beneficial to humanity. Narrow nationalism should never be allowed to blur our humanity, especially in this age of global dimensions and mass communications, when the whole world has become one unit and one family. The assertion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that “the whole creation is the family of Allah” also underscores this notion.

We started with two at the time of the birth of humanity, about 15 to 20 crore at the time of the birth of Jesus Christ, about 50 crore in 1650, and 100 crore in 1800, and now we are a teeming 780 crore population. Thus, not only the Hindus and the Muslims of India but the whole mankind has the same DNA, same dignity and fundamental unity.

It is good that Mr. Bhagwat supports democracy, equality and rule of law for all.  This is not enough, he should clearly condemn all acts of violence, hate speech and lynchings in which his followers are routinely reported to have participated. Not mere words, deeds and solid deeds are required. The incidents of terrorism by RSS adherents have defamed India in the whole world and we are unable to face the civilized world.

The same day when Bhagwatji was speaking that “one who says that a Muslim should not live in India is not a true Hindu”, the spokesperson of BJP in Haryana Suraj Pal Amu was speaking fire, stoking hate and calling the Muslims “Pakistanis” and exhorting his audience to not even let houses to these (Pakistanis) i.e. Muslims. Indian Express of June 5 has published Bhagwat’s and Amu’s speeches on Page 10. A top BJP leader from Haryana was reported as saying, “These were his personal comments. The party has nothing to do with it.” Amu is the same person who announced a reward of `10 crore for beheading actress Deepika Padukone and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali of the film ‘Padmaavat’.

To run with the hare and hunt with the hounds is unbecoming of an honest leader. Mr. Bhagwat should openly condemn all hate speeches and open and hidden talks which have drowned India in communal poison which resulted in fanning the flames of hatred, discrimination and genocidal tendencies in the large segments of population. We hope our sincere comments would be taken into consideration with matching openness and sincerity.
