As Nagaland is closing to assembly polls, two of its top level officials who normally play key roles in the elections have gone on leave as their son is a contestant in the assembly polls. The two officials, Alemtemshi Jamir and Banou Z Jamir who happened to be husband and wife, are holding key posts in the state as one of them is Chief Secretary while another is Commissioner of Nagaland. The couple has gone on leave for 10 days and will join their respective duties until the counting is over on 28 February. “This is the first time that two most important officials have gone on leave during an election. But it was a decent thing to do so, as it leaves no doubt about their integrity or the integrity of their son in the mind of the people,” says Abu Meta, press secretary to the Chief Minister.
