Corruption, scam and scandal have become order of the day in India. These are the symptoms of malady of materialism and moral and spiritual degradation. With the dawn of independence, religion was pushed to back seat under the misconception that religion leads to communalism and narrow mindedness. Misuse of religion for political purpose may prove disastrous for the country. But we must realise that religion is morality and humanism, pure and simple.
Material advancement without moral and spiritual progress is tragically meaningless. The materialistic ideologies have particularly spoiled the social and family life. Lack of peace of mind, horrible number of suicides, juvenile delinquencies, drug addiction, frequent divorces, mental disorders, ghastly crimes, etc. are some of the fruits of the materialistic way of life. Only a socio-economic-political order based on spiritual, moral and humanitarian values is the need of the hour.
