Dr. Syed Ahmad Khan, Secretary General of All India Unani Tibbi Congress, has written a letter to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath, demanding that formal Unani OPD and IPD services be started as soon as possible at the Government Unani Medical College and Hospital in Bareilly district.

In his letter, Dr. Khan said that after Independence, the construction work of the first Government Unani Medical College and Hospital in Bareilly, had been completed quite some time ago, certainly a welcome development. However, the hospital has still not been formally inaugurated, even though the commencement of OPD services is mandatory for obtaining approval for the college.

He further explained the requirements necessary for securing recognition for the new Unani Medical College from the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine. He also pointed out that the Director of Unani Services, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh, is already carrying out the necessary procedures for the recruitment of staff for the Government Unani Medical College and Hospital, Bareilly.

The college, constructed by the PWD with financial assistance from the Ministry of Minority Affairs, came into existence after nearly ten years of struggle, yet the formal hospital services have still not commenced.

Dr. Khan expressed hope that the Government of Uttar Pradesh would take positive action in the public interest at the earliest.
