The status of women is very high in Islam. Islam emphasises on male education as well as on female education. Islam gives much importance to women but media has distorted the image of Islam knowingly or unknowingly and misinterpreted the status of women in Islam. Today Muslim women are playing a very important role in almost every walk of life be it social, moral or educational,” said Dr Syeda Sayedain, member of Planning Commission of India in the inaugural session of a two-day national seminar on “Muslim Women and their Contribution to Society” organised by Department of sociology of Jamia Millia Islamia in collaboration with National Commission for Women and Muslim Women’s Forum in New Delhi on March 8, 2011.
Jamia’s Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jang said that the theme for discussion is very relevant today and in future the university will give priority to seminars and programmes on such topics.
