Mid-day Meal Scheme whose key objectives are protecting children from classroom hunger, increasing school enrolment and attendance, and addressing malnutrition is running fine in many states and districts of the country. And if reports are to be believed its proper implementation is taking place in Gonda district of U.P. as well, however the fact is something different. From the month of July, students of various schools have not received their mid-day meal, however the reports of its daily distribution is reaching the authorities without fail. Twenty-eight schools fall under the district and every month government shells out around crores of rupees and gives subsidised grains for the scheme, yet mid-day meal is still a dream for the students of Gonda district. In some schools the rift between the pardhan and the principal is not allowing the scheme to be worked upon and in some schools the appointment of the cooks is still taking place. And it is only the students who are bearing the brunt of this callous attitude of the authorities. The district magistrate Mr. Ram Bahadur said that when the government has provided all the facilities, why the scheme is not being implemented. He added that those involved in sending the false reports will not be spared.
