It is the teachers who lay the basic foundations of learning and education in the tender minds of kids. It is the teachers whom the kids admire and take inspiration from. However there are as many as 250 schools in many districts of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, where there are no science teachers for quite a long time. The result of this is that almost all the students do not even know the correct name of the science book. Science is a compulsory subject in standard 6, 7 and 8 and out of the total of 1624 schools in the area, 243 schools are operating without science teachers and the onus of teaching science has fallen on the Sanskrit and Hindi teachers of the school!
“Parakh” is the name of the book, which is being taught at junior level and the school authorities assume that even the non-science teachers would be knowing about the basic principles and formulae that are used in primary level science. It is on this assumption that the teachers are given the responsibility to teach the subject.
Nothing concrete has been done to undone the damage that has been done to the students so far. No recruitment drives are taking place to fill in the vacant positions of science teachers and it is only the students who are bearing the brunt of this careless attitude of the authority, of which the children themselves are oblivious of at the moment.
